Hackney Youth Parliament (HYP)

Are you aged 13-19 and belong to a youth club, school or some other youth group?
Are you a member of a forum group in that organisation or would you like to start one?
Would you like to be part of something bigger that seeks to benefit young people and the wider community in Hackney?

Hackney Youth Parliament (HYP) is a local government initiative that provides a platform for young people in Hackney to have their say. It's run by Hackney Youth Service and strives to be the point at which young people across the borough have their say and create positive change concerning things that affect them.

HYP is made up of five forums which are designed to represent all youth groups in Hackney:
• The 4 Area Neighbourhood Youth Forums are Homerton, Shoreditch, North-East and Stoke Newington; these are based on Hackney borough’s four forum areas of the same name.
• Each forum include youth clubs, schools, voluntary youth providers and organisations interested in the welfare of young people within that particular forum area.
• The fifth forum is the Borough Wide Forum which is made up of all organisations that cover the whole of Hackney. Examples of these are Faith Organisations, Looked After Young Children (LAC), Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT), etc.

To be part of Hackney Youth Parliament organisations are required to have a youth forum / council and be willing to elect 2 young people from these to the Area Neighbourhood Youth Forum they are situated in.
If your youth organisation or school is not already taking part then talk to a member of staff in your organisation.
